1 Heating of dwarf galaxies in ultralight dark matter

Ultralight dark matter (ULDM) is an alternative to cold dark matter where the particle mass is so light that the wavelike dynamics of the field produce observable impacts on structure. Some of the strongest constraints on this model come from analyses of small scale structure. For example, the oscillating density substructure which is typical of ULDM can dynamically heat the stellar distributions of ultra-faint dwarf galaxies. In this talk I will summarize the main phenomena associated with this model and its most important constraints. I will then discuss dynamical heating constraints in greater detail focusing on their systematics uncertainties. Finally, I will go over our recent work simulating these systems.
